Join us for our production of Daddy Long Legs at the Cultural Arts Center of the High Desert.
A tender musical told almost entirely through letters.
Jerusha Abbott, a spirited young woman from an orphanage, is given the chance to attend college by an anonymous benefactor she has nicknamed “Daddy Long Legs.” In return, she is asked to write monthly letters describing her life and studies, letters that may never be answered.
On the receiving end is Jervis Pendleton, a man who prefers distance and insists he is not good at attachment. Yet month after month, he finds himself reading, reflecting, and waiting for the next letter to arrive.
As the years pass, Jerusha’s words trace her growth, her questions, and her hopes, capturing the small moments that shape a life. Through humor, curiosity, and quiet reflection, the story explores how connection can form even at a distance, and how stories, once shared, have a way of leaving a lasting impression.
